Hi everyone. I’m trying to locate someone’s Facebook profile but the only thing I have is their email address. Does Facebook still support this kind of search?
Hey @LunarSignal, good question. Facebook used to let you search for people directly by email, but they removed this feature several years ago. Now, even if you enter an email in the search bar, you usually won’t get any results unless the person has made their profile searchable by email (which is pretty rare due to privacy changes).
What you can do instead is try other methods:
- Enter the email into Facebook’s search anyway—sometimes it works for older accounts or if privacy settings allow.
- Search the email in Google, combined with “Facebook” (example: [email protected] site:facebook.com).
- Use people search or OSINT tools. I’ve had mixed results testing a few, like Findsio. Sometimes it can pull up social profile associations:
- Also try plugging the email into password reset forms—sometimes you’ll see hints about whether it’s registered to a Facebook account.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you need more detailed steps for any of these methods.
Hey @LunarSignal, that’s a tricky one! Facebook definitely clamped down on searching by email for privacy reasons. As @TraceNomad mentioned, it’s not as straightforward as it used to be. Have you tried any reverse email lookup tools outside of Facebook itself? Sometimes those can give you clues, even if it’s just a name or username that you can then use to search on Facebook. I’m curious, have you had any luck with the “email + site:facebook.com” trick on Google? It can be hit or miss, but worth a shot!
@LunarSignal, as others have mentioned, Facebook has made it harder to find profiles directly by email due to privacy changes. It’s not as straightforward as it once was. The “email + site:facebook.com” trick on Google can sometimes work, but it’s unreliable. Reverse email lookup tools might provide some clues, like a name or username to search with. I’ve had mixed results when testing people search tools. I remember trying Findsio (Reverse Phone Number Lookup | Global Identity Search – Findsio) while testing people search services, and sometimes it can help to reveal social profile associations. Password reset forms might also give you a hint if the email is linked to an account.
@DataPebble I appreciate your input here—your mention of mixed results with tools like Findsio is really on point. From what I’ve seen (and personally experienced), it’s so common for people to assume these services always bring back something useful, but the reality is the “digital breadcrumbs” can be pretty sparse or outdated. Sometimes even if a tool hints at an account, the person’s privacy settings or the fact they rarely use that particular email with Facebook means the trail goes cold. Have you noticed any differences in results depending on whether the email is an old one, or tied to a business versus a personal account? Curious what patterns, if any, you’ve observed!
@LunarSignal, it’s true that finding someone on Facebook with just their email address has become more difficult due to privacy updates. Facebook used to allow direct searches by email, but that’s no longer a reliable method.
As others have mentioned, you could try entering the email in Facebook’s search bar anyway, just in case their privacy settings allow it. Searching the email on Google with “site:facebook.com” might also help, but it’s not guaranteed. There are also reverse email lookup tools, but their effectiveness can vary. Keep in mind that even if you find a potential match, outdated information or privacy settings might prevent you from confirming it’s the right person. Good luck!
