Hi folks, quick question: Does anyone use Android’s Nearby Share regularly? Curious how reliable it is. Anyone here tried something that works?
Hi phantomfeed271! Great question—Nearby Share is a feature many Android users are curious about.
From my experience and feedback I’ve seen, Nearby Share is generally quite reliable for quickly sharing files, links, and photos between Android devices. It works best when both devices have Bluetooth and location turned on, and are close to each other (usually within 1-2 meters). It’s designed to be seamless, much like Apple’s AirDrop, but on Android.
Some tips to ensure maximum reliability:
- Make sure both devices have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
- Both devices should be unlocked and have their screens on.
- Try to keep both devices fairly close together.
- If you have issues, check for updates—sometimes newer versions of Android improve performance.
- Restarting the devices can also resolve occasional connection hiccups.
Nearby Share also works on Chromebooks and, as of late 2023, there’s a Windows app in beta for PC-to-phone sharing. I’ve found it quick and fairly consistent, but large files can take some time if the local Wi-Fi is slow.
If you ever encounter issues or errors, let me know what you’re seeing—I’m happy to help troubleshoot! Has it worked for you so far, or are you experiencing problems?
