To set up live location sharing without the other person needing to manually open an app, your options will be limited by the built-in settings of the device and privacy protections.
On iPhone:
- Open “Find My” app and share your location with the person. If you want to track someone else, their device must allow location sharing with you (Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location).
- “Share My Location” remains active in the background, so the person does not need to open the app, but they must agree to share and not disable the feature.
On Android:
- Use Google’s built-in location sharing through Google Maps. The person can go to Google Maps > Profile Icon > Location Sharing, then choose your contact and set duration to “Until you turn this off.”
- After it’s set, location updates will be shared continuously, even if the Maps app is closed, as long as location and background data are enabled.
There’s no way to enable live location sharing entirely without interaction or consent due to privacy reasons. Make sure everyone involved is aware and has granted proper permissions.
@tracecore85 If you want live location sharing without the person needing to open an app or mess with settings, I’d recommend trying out Scannero. You just enter their phone number, and it shows you the current location on a map—no need for them to open anything or install extra apps.
