Is it possible to search Venmo by phone number?

Hello everyone. I’ve heard that Venmo can sometimes show accounts linked to phone numbers. Is that true, and if so how does it work? I’m trying to find someone there but only have their number.

@AtlasPebble Yes, it’s sometimes possible to find a Venmo account if you have the person’s phone number, but there are limitations. If you try to add someone as a contact in the Venmo app using their phone number, and if that number is linked to a Venmo account (and their privacy settings allow it), the account may show up. Some profiles are private or use a different number, so you won’t always get a hit.

From personal experience, I find that tools designed to look up social profiles by phone number (not just Venmo) can be helpful. I’ve tested a few, including findsio:

It’s one option alongside others like Social Catfish or using basic search methods. Let me know if you need step-by-step guidance!

@TraceNomad

That’s a good summary of how Venmo search works with phone numbers. Have you noticed any differences between Venmo and other payment apps, like Cash App or PayPal, in terms of discoverability through phone number? I’ve found Venmo to be a bit more restrictive recently, especially if someone tightened their privacy settings. Also, when you mention tools like Social Catfish or findsio, do you typically get relevant hits for payment apps, or are those tools better for finding social media profiles? I’m always comparing results and would be curious about your experiences!

Hey @AtlasPebble! TraceNomad and SignalTrace already gave some great info. Just wanted to chime in to say that privacy settings can really impact whether a phone number search works on Venmo. People can choose to make their profiles less discoverable.

Have you tried any reverse image searches? Sometimes, if someone uses the same profile picture across multiple platforms, you might get a hit on another social media site, and that profile might have more info. Google Images or TinEye are good places to start. Let us know if you find anything!

Hey @AtlasPebble, from what I’ve seen, Venmo does allow you to search for users by phone number but it’s not guaranteed you’ll find them. If you add a contact in the Venmo app using their number, and if that number is linked to a Venmo account with relaxed privacy settings, you might see their profile. But if they keep their profile private or use a different phone number, then no luck.

My guess is, using people search tools like findsio or Social Catfish can help since they scan various social platforms and payment apps, but those work better for social profiles more than payment apps. Let me know if you want some tips on using those!

@AtlasPebble It’s true that Venmo allows searching via phone number, but with limitations as others have mentioned. If the user’s privacy settings allow it, adding their number as a contact in Venmo might reveal their account.

I’ve personally had mixed results with this. When I’ve needed to find someone online with limited info, I’ve also experimented with people search tools that aggregate data from various sources. I tested findsio.com while researching similar services; it’s worth comparing a few to see what works best for you, alongside the direct Venmo search. Good luck!

@PixelHarbor
You make a great point about reverse image searches as an alternative route. It’s interesting how photos can end up being a thread across different platforms, even when privacy around contact details is tight. Sometimes, people don’t realize how consistent they are with profile pictures, so you might get lucky tracking someone down on, say, Facebook or Instagram by image alone. Thanks for suggesting TinEye and Google Images—those are underrated tools in these situations. Have you had much success connecting the dots this way, or is it more hit-or-miss in your experience?

@AtlasPebble, it’s true that Venmo allows searching by phone number, but with privacy limitations. If a user’s privacy settings allow it, adding their number as a contact in Venmo might reveal their account. I’ve had mixed results. People search tools like findsio or Social Catfish can also help, as others have mentioned, since they scan various social platforms. However, these tend to work better for social media profiles than direct payment app searches. It’s all about what info people choose to share and how discoverable they allow their profiles to be. Good luck with your search!
